Healing Alternatives
Center offers natural ways to heal the body

Headaches. Colitis.
Fibromyalgia. Dementia.
Such aliments and conditions can be blamed on countless
culprits, but all can be addressed at Enlightened, 8600 W.
159th St., Orland Park. Opened in 2005, the center offers
nontraditional approaches to healing the body's many aches
and pains. "It's all about natural healing -- either
homeopathic, herbs, whole food supplements or using energy
medicine. A lot of mind, body and spirit healing, too,"
owner Karen Erickson said. In addition to saliva, allergy,
meridian, nutritional and hair services, Enlightened offers
massages, including the Primary Reflex Release Technique, or
PRRT, which works with the body's reflexes to release
injuries in the body so it can heal faster. Stem cell
activation also is offered at the center. "We have our own
stem cells. We don't have to go and get embryos," Erickson
said.
"Stem cells go dormant when you're formed. All we're doing
is activating them through tuning forks because we have
different depository sites in the body. It's amazing how
much strength people get back."
John Steel and his mother, Gert, would agree. For two months
the Steels have been going to Enlightened -- Steel for his
Crohn's disease and Gert for dementia. Both receive stem
cell therapy along with nutritional support, which
87-year-old Gert said has given her more strength and a
calming of nerves. "It's worth it, and I feel better," Gert
said of her hourlong visits every other week. "My mom has
improved greatly. She's become more independent and sleeps a
lot better," John said. "This is a great place to come and
get help. My diet has gotten better, and Karen has helped me
become more conscious of my diet choices." With an emphasis
on emotional healing, Erickson aims to help people release
emotional hurts through guided imagery and meditations.
"It's helping people release emotional traumas -- things
that have happened in their life that they haven't been able
to let go of," she said. "Our emotions create our illnesses.
You can't just address the physical. "We believe in the
mind, body, spirit connection. You have to look at all of
them. If you don't, you can't have a complete healing."
Erickson also conducts Psychosomatic Energetic testing, or
PSE, which is a form of energy work. By using homeopathics
to find unconscious conflicts, Erickson tests and looks for
hidden emotions such as anxiousness, nervousness, pain and
fatigue. "These things drain the body," she said. "PSE does
help you become more at peace with things." Erickson is a
certified hypnotherapist and one of a few practitioners in
the United States to have completed Level II training in PSE.
She also is certified in the Ondamed Biofeedback System, a
leading energy medicine technology that helps release energy
blocks in the body to heal. In addition to Erickson,
Enlightened has a reflexologist who massages the bottoms of
feet to target the meridian points of organs. "She can
actually work on your sinuses, and you'll feel them opening
up," Erickson said. "It really helps people with foot
problems, too. Reflexology is incredible for that." Those
with serious illnesses, such as cancer, also are encouraged
to try Enlightened alternative treatments.
"I've done a lot of work with breast cancer," she said.
"With cancer specifically, you have to test for geopathic
stress. The person can be exposed to that and it drains the
body of energy." Treatments for weight loss, quitting
smoking and even pet therapy also are offered at Enlightened
in Orland Park. "We help people reconnect with their soul or
spirit," Erickson said. "We're helping them become more
peaceful."
Sat. Jan 20th & Sun. Jan. 21st, 2007, Karen Erickson, CHT
(Certified Hypnotherapist) and Founder of Enlightened was
featured on CLTV every half hour from 6: PM – 9:00 PM Sat.
night and Sunday morning before the divisional championship.
She was interviewed about positive visualization techniques
and how it can help you and others achieve goals and help
the body heal and perform better. She was shown leading a
guided meditation with the group of people at Enlightened
focusing on the helping the bears win. They spent a lot of
time focusing on the Bears defensive game, seeing the Bears
defense sacking the New Orleans Quarterback, and offense
helping the Bears Quarterback complete his passes. If you
remember that game, that is what exactly happened. The Bears
defense was awesome and the commentators kept mentioning
they hadn’t seen them play like this for some time.
Everybody was quite surprised at how good the Bears played.
They must have been “Enlightened” because they won the game
and went on to the Super Bowl… too bad the media didn’t have
Karen do it again for the Super Bowl…it could have had a
different outcome!
How To Prepare Your Mind For Sports Training and Competition
By Karen Erickson, CHT
1.
Meditate Twice A Day – Quiet your mind for a minimum of a ½
hour twice a day, the more the better. This helps you
decrease stress, increase your immune system, helps to
balance & restore your body and mind and get you in the flow
of the energy of what you want to create and attract in your
life.
2.
After
sitting quietly in meditation, now start visualizing your
athletic training in your mind for at least a ½ hour, doing
it perfectly the way you want your body to perform.
3.
Put
emotion into your visualization, feel yourself winning, feel
yourself making that perfect shot, really put emotion into
your visualization.
4.
Believe, Know and Feel you can do it. You must believe it to
achieve it.
5.
Watch for self sabotaging behavior and thoughts such as
drinking, drugs, eating unhealthy food, smoking, saying “I
can’t” etc. If you find yourself doing or thinking things
that aren’t in alignment of what you want to achieve, you
need to be honest with yourself and get to the real reason
why you are doing these things. You may have unconscious
fears, limiting beliefs or issues that need to be healed, so
seek out a professional that works with athletes in finding
these unconscious conflicts, such as a sports hypnotherapist.
Generally, these issues can be cleared up in just a few
sessions.
6.
Check your emotions – are they draining your energy?
Emotions such as anger, grief, fear, resentment, jealousy,
stress, etc. drain your energy and make you weak. If you are
dealing with unresolved emotional issues and aren’t feeling
happiness, joy, love and peace, seek out a professional who
do emotional healing, hypnosis or guided imagery that can
help you resolve these issues quickly, so you can get back
to your peak performance. There is even FDA registered
equipment, such as the PSE Reba device, that can measure the
energy field of your emotions, your vitality and your energy
reserves to find out if you are at peak performance and can
help you get back there quickly.
ENERGY HEALING - THE NEW MEDICINE OF THE FUTURE
By Karen Erickson
Lately, you hear people talking about Energy Healing or
Energy Medicine and Chakras, from Dr. Oz on Oprah, cancer
support groups, your neighbor, hospitals and churches.
Energy Medicine or Healing is based on the principle that
everything is energy, our bodies are energy and every organ,
virus, bacteria and parasite in our bodies has a vibration.
The body has an energy field called an Aura and has many
levels to the energy field, the physical, emotional, mental
and causal or spiritual. It also has 7 major energy canters
or chakras which start at the base of the spine and go to
the crown of the head. There are actually more than 7
chakras, but most popular are the main seven. When we have
illness, depression or dis-ease in the body, we have a lower
vibration or energy in our body that isn’t flowing properly.
An energy healing is about raising the vibration of your
aura, or energy field so your body can heal itself and
release these blocks or lower vibrations that are causing
disharmony. Energy healing with a well trained practitioner
is usually safe for almost any health or emotional problem a
person may be experiencing. One usually feels more at peace,
more balanced and relaxed after a session. There is little
talking that is necessary and yet many people will
experience an emotional release during the session, which is
very freeing and healing.
There are hundreds of types and forms of energy healing or
energy medicine. The most popular forms such as, Reiki,
Quantum Touch, T-Touch are where a practitioner channels
from Spirit, God, The Divine Source loving healing high
vibration energy through their body and out their hands into
your body helping to raise your body’s own energy to help it
heal, release stress, trauma, and pain. This method of
“laying of hands” on the body has been used for thousands of
years and is our own natural instinct when we have an injury
or pain to put our hand on the area of discomfort for
ourselves or for another, such as a child. Another form of
energy healing, such as Theta Healing and Kahuna ARCH, is
where the practitioner connects to God or Divine Source and
directs loving healing energy directly to your energy field
and into your body causing a shift to take place or a
release. Both forms are very relaxing and rejuvenating to
the body and help release the past, this life and even past
life. Many practitioners work with Angels, Ascended Masters
such as Jesus, Saints or Spirit Guides to assist them in
your healing. They also may work with crystals, tuning
forks, singing bowls, rattles, and drums to help break up
and clear lower vibrational energy. Acupuncture is also a
form of energy medicine. It is about getting the body’s chi
to flow properly, using small needles placed on meridian
points or energy gateways to balance and open up the energy.
There are also machines that work on the body balancing the
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual and can even test
the body to see what the issues are and where they are
located. The Ondamed Biofeedback is one of these machines
with 33,000 frequencies that can test for many issues in the
body, including bacteria, viruses, fungus, and parasites and
can apply these different frequencies to help get the body
to heal itself. Also, light, color, sound, electric stem,
far infrared saunas, foot detox, pulsed magnetic therapies
are all forms of different types of energy medicine. There
are hundreds of these types of machines that can help reduce
pain and inflammation, heal skin issues, be used to reverse
aging, detox, boost the immune system, reduce stress and
balance the emotions, etc.
Energy healing medicine is the medicine of the future, which
Einstein had stated and now even Dr. Oz, because it works
with the body’s own natural flow, just how it is meant to be
healed.
Let’s face it, the holiday season is stressful to you and your family, but it is
also stressful to your pets too. With people coming to visit or you leaving your
pets behind to visit family or taking your pets with you, it is still a
stressful time for them too. Your pet(s) may be stressed if they start clinging
to you, pace, nervous biting or excessive licking, whining or hiding. Here’s
some tips for helping your pets handle the stress of the holidays.
1.
Remain calm and peaceful yourself, breathe & meditate, take some time out to
relax and calm down. You and your pets are very connected, so if you are
stressed out, it will make your pet uneasy and stressed. They will pick up on
your energy and start to feel the same way, so keep yourself calm and your pet
will feel more relaxed as well.
2.
Keep your pets routine the same as much as possible. Keeping their routine the
same, feeding schedules, play and attention time, going outside and for walks
and bedtime around the same time will also give your pet a sense of security and
help keep them from getting stressed.
3.
If you are traveling with your pet(s), bring their beds and toys. Put their bed
& toys where you are going to be sleeping or spending a lot of time makes them
feel that is their territory and will help them adjust better to the new
surroundings.
4.
Keep their diet the same. Make sure your relatives or friends aren’t feeding
your pets food without your permission. Too many additional snacks can make your
pets sick, especially if it is food they don’t normally get. Make sure candy,
chocolates, cookies and other snacks are kept out of your pets reach and if you
travel with your pets, you take their food along with you, don’t change brands
of food during this time, it can give them diarrhea.
5.
Give your pets lots of attention. During this time, it is important to not
forget to give your pets attention, just like you normally do. Spend time with
them and if you are going away, make sure you have hired someone who will be
spending a lot of time with your pet and isn’t just going to keep them locked up
in a cage or come by for a few minutes to put food out.
6.
Get Flower Essences at your local health food store that are for stress, such as
an emergency care remedy, and put it in your pet’s water or food, or rub it on
its ears or put it in its mouth. It would be a good idea for you and your family
to take it too. Flower essences work great on pets and people, working on the
energy field and they are very safe. It is best to start giving this to your pet
and yourself a week or two before the holidays hit, just to help all of you to
handle the preparations better.
7.
If your pet(s) isn’t very social and likes it quiet, it is best to keep them in
a room that is quiet and away from everyone. Remember to make sure you give your
pet plenty of attention and put its toys and bed in there.
8.
For dogs or cats, you may use essential oils, such as lavender, jasmine,
geranium, chamomile, and frankincense to calm your pet down, by letting them
smell the oil or diffusing it in the room. Pets are very sensitive to smells, so
always dilute these oils or use very little.
9.
Make sure you don’t expose your pet to anything that can harm your pet such as
tinsel, holiday plants which are poisonous, toys they can swallow, utility cords
they can chew or get tangled up in, trees they can climb and knock over, etc.
Remember, your pets need house proofing just like little children do.
10.
Play with your pets, exercise them. Just like people, exercise helps work out
that stress, so get them playing and having fun and they will feel better and
want to sleep.
11.
Talk to you pets and let them know what is going to be happening. They
understand a lot , send them pictures and let them know when you’ll be back or
when the company will be leaving and things will return back to normal.
12.
Give them a toy or a healthy treat that will keep them busy for awhile.
13.
Play calming music around your pet to also create a happy peaceful environment.
Our animal companions have come into our lives to teach us many things…to love
unconditionally, to show warmth and affection, to be cheerful and playful, to
not hold a grudge and they can even teach us how to relax and meditate. We
humans can even teach our pets to also become more peaceful and meditate. Our
animal companions have evolved to where they have become very close to us, so
much so, that they take on our stuff and reflect back what is really going on
inside of us. It is not uncommon to hear about a pet that has come down with an
illness or disease and then to hear that the owners now has this very illness or
that the owner is nervous or anxious and the pet shows signs of nervousness or
stress. When we meditate we calm our bodies and our mind down and become more
peaceful within. This helps our bodies become less stressed, our adrenal glands
to produce less cortisol, which ages our body and causes many health issues. Our
brain wave frequencies immediately change to an alpha or theta state, which
changes our entire energy field and affects the room that we are in. Animals are
extremely sensitive to the energy that they are around. Their sixth sense is
highly developed, so they respond to the energy around them. If we sit quietly
in meditation next to your pet, you will find that your pet will usually quiet
right down, as long as his basic needs have been met. You can then send your pet
mental images of how you are going within, showing your pet this peaceful state.
They will many times follow you and match your energy. By doing this, you are
helping your pet become healthier and more emotionally balanced besides
yourself. There are many pets, especially cats, that seemed to be quite gifted
as natural meditators. They can actually help teach you to meditate by matching
their peaceful energy. I have such a cat which is always in such a blissful,
peaceful state. She is quite evolved and whenever I have a hard time getting
calm, I have her come join me and I just match her energy by focusing on her and
then closing my eyes. Every day we match other people’s energy in our work place
or in our home and we certainly notice when we don’t. If you are really happy
and start talking to someone who is a complainer and miserable, our natural
reaction is to walk away, or to get them to come up to our level, by trying to
cheer them up or we will naturally sink to their level, if we continue to hang
out with them. This is what happens with our pets with us and we also can become
more like our pets.
Pets can also be lead through a guided meditation to help them release certain
issues or traumas they might have experienced that may be bothering them. As an
animal communicator, I have led many pets through a meditation over long
distances to help them. They are very telepathic and respond very easily to
guided images showing them how to release an issue. You can send your pet loving
thoughts or peaceful energy while you are gone and they will pick up on it. If
you are stressed out all day, there is a good chance your pet can pick up on
that too, because they are always connected to us. There have been many stories
done on showing how pets know the exact moment their owner is now on his way
home and the pet at home wakes up and starts waiting at the door for her
arrival. We are all connected and the more we become more peaceful, the more our
pet will and the more others will around us.
